Rendering is the process of turning 3D models into images. The traditional way of doing rendering is to pixelize each triangle. It's a fast process, but it can't get realistic effects due to missing light bouncing among 3D objects. Ray tracing solves this problem by tracing how light interacts with 3D objects instead. But it is more expensive to compute, therefore, we often see it as offline rendering.

Today, thanks to NVIDIA RTX, it is now possible to do real-time rendering and we see more and more games adopting it, such as Minecraft and Fortnite. At Style3D, we began investigating the idea of real-time ray tracing into digital fashion software in early 2023. Based on cross-platform Vulkan API, we developed our own real-time ray tracing engine and we successfully deployed into our products for the first time in history. Using real-time ray tracing, users can now generate realistic images in seconds, or even in milliseconds, rather than in minutes. This really improves user experience, so artists and designers can save the time spent on tuning material, light, camera or other parameters. Our next step is improve the reflectance models of digital fabrics. To the industry, the material is the key and we are committed to advance the realism of fabric appearance in images.
